Analysis and Conclusions
"We've Done the Homework for you!"

There more than 30 well know non-profit solutions out there, and several dozen third-party add-on solutions and lesser know solutions.

Basically, American Fundware has been the most popular non profit solution over the past decade, but the product has been in decline for the past 4 years or so. Last year, Intuit purchased American Fundware, and it is not clear what the plans are for the future of this product. I have talked to Intuit about their plans for Fundware, and they can’t seem to give me any coherent strategy for this product. Therefore, I would not recommend American Fundware to you at this time, but you will no doubt run into this product in your reviews.

Blackbaud and MIP are the two products that have emerged in recent years as the top non profit solutions. Both are excellent solutions. Both are priced relatively low.

Blackbaud is a solid well-proven product which I have recommended many times over the years with good satisfaction. Located in Charleston, this is an excellent company with good people behind the product. Blackbaud has more than 3,500 customers and last year revenues were approximately $100 million. Blackbaud has stronger fund raising capabilities than MIP. http://www.blackbaud.com We were in the process of reviewing Blackbaud, but our attention was diverted to other products. You can track our progress here: http://www.accountingsoftwareadvisor.com/blackbaud/index.shtml

MIP is also a solid, well-proven solution. I have not had as much first hand experience with MIP, but I have received very good feedback from many trusted people around the country concerning MIP - and most of the feedback has been very positive. Recently I have received complaints from a couple of MIP customers, but not enough to warrant a problem with this product. MIP is now owned by Best Software which of course is the largest accounting software company in the world with 2.9 million customers. MIP has stronger financial reporting capabilities than Blackbaud. www.mip.com

In recent years, Blackbaud and MIP have dominated the non-profit vertical marketplace. In my opinion, your best vertical specific choices would be between these two products. You should also be aware that other solid financial applications offer non-profit solutions as well, such as Navision and Open Systems.

If you are looking for a very strong non-profit solution which includes powerful customization capabilities, you should consider Navision with the Serenic Non-Profit add-on. This solution offers excellent financial accounting coupled with a solid non-profit solution. This product commands a higher price, but it is the Cadillac of non-profit solutions and is certainly worth investigating. http://www.Serenic

As another good alternative, Open Systems TRAVERSE is a lower priced alternative which offers a non-profit solution as well. Written in Microsoft Access and scalable up to SQL Server, this product includes source code modification capabilities. TRAVERSE is a very nice product for the price point you have mentioned.  http://www.osas.com/html/NLCV6ZXN1D6ICYSTOUEH.htm
