There are dozens of manufacturing solutions out their in the marketplace, and after working with many of the available alternatives I think it is safe to say that most of them are complex solutions - some worse than others. In my opinion, the manufacturing solutions I tend to like more than others are listed below. 

TOP THREE MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS:

Dynamics.AX (Axapta from Microsoft)  This is an outstanding solution that is extremely customizable. Axapta offers both discrete and process manufacturing. I consider Axapta to be the Cadillac of manufacturing solutions. It has almost everything you would want in a manufacturing solution except the Microsoft CRM is very weak and there is no payroll / human resources solution. There is a shortage of experienced Axapta resellers as well. If you need a good Axapta reseller, John Plut of the CD Group at 678.268.2076.
SYSPRO (SYSPRO) SYSPRO is a feature-rich manufacturing solution that all other manufacturing solutions fear because of the product's deep features and low cost. For the money, there is no better manufacturing solution available. SYSPRO has nearly all the features and functions you could ask for in a manufacturing solution. The product is great for discrete, process, shop floor control, advanced distribution, production planning, etc. SYSPRO is the best product out there when it comes to accounting for scrap materials as well. SYSPRO is COBOL based with mono-space fonts, therefore it is not the prettiest system you will ever see. The biggest problem with this product is that it cannot be easily customized. 
E by Epicor (Epicor)  Epicor is a powerful manufacturing solution and this ERP killer is worth a look. Epicor has all of the features and functionality you could want including the best web based product configurator on the market. However, as much as I like Epicor, I think that Axapta offers a better choice than Epicor because Axapta cost less, is far more customizable, and is easier to implement and use.
